How to Make Your Own Jewelry/Key Hooks

The other day I mentioned that Ben and I made this

Want to make your own? It’s real simple, it doesn’t take long. And if you don’t have a husband participating, you even get to use the staple gun!

Here’s what you’ll need and how we did it:

  • wood, cut to whatever size you want
  • fabric
  • staple gun
  • tea cup hooks
  • picture hangers

Pick what size you want it to be. We used a long skinny piece for some, and a wide piece for the others. Cut the wood to the lengths you want, and pick out your fabric. We got our supplies at Lowe’s and Wal-Mart.

From there it’s pretty easy: Cut the fabric to fit the wooden pieces, and basically wrap it up like a present. We cut out a lot of the extra fabric as we went to get rid of the bulk. If you have raw edges that are fraying like we did, I used Fray Check (that you can find at most craft stores and Wal-Mart) to stop the fraying. Then you just staple it all down. Next, add the picture hooks on the back, and the tea cup hooks on the bottom.

Here’s what one looks like from the back.

And then let your imagination run wild with what you can do with them! This one above is for our keys. We made the ones for my necklaces I already showed you, and some just for decoration.

It was a fun family project. Hope you enjoy as well!
